The term ceiling ‘boss’ is used for a block that sits in the junction between ceiling ‘straps’ or ‘architraves’. This particular ceiling boss was larger than usual and set out as corner pieces, with the strapping acting as an algorithm rather than intersecting at cross points as in traditional use. Although the original boss was... Read more
Aside from heritage plaster moulding production and repair work, Vision Ornate Plaster also does modern or contemporary work as well. This project was done in a Toorak home near Melbourne. Vision Ornate Plaster completed an exciting plaster reproduction and restoration in beautiful Brighton, Victoria. The project is an extensive Art Nouveau, my favourite period of architecture, as it celebrates good craftmanship, and a certain flare and “positivity” in its design. For this spectacular project, the team restored and remade multiple silicone moulds and many run... Read more

What damage?😉. One of my favourite parts of our job is freehand work. Here, we took a damaged 100-year-old corbel and `hand built` it up on site. It was the most economical and efficient solution and a reminder of why traditional plastering skills still matter.
Thanks to @captain_gyprock for recommending us to this client!
From under construction to show-ready. This was our largest custom and heritage restoration project to date. Melbourne’s Regent Theatre, owned by the Marriner Group.
Twelve months of planning, sampling, mould making, plaster casting, and installation went into restoring this iconic venue. A full behind-the-scenes article is coming soon. Stay tuned.
When renovating a heritage home, some are told it’s cheaper and quicker to remove original cornice and replace it with stock profiles. Often that’s not true, and more importantly, you risk losing the character of your heritage home.
Removing cornice is labour intensive, can cause damage, and requires disposal and full re-installation. With rising stock cornice profile costs over the past years, this option adds up quickly.
Matching existing cornice involves creating a mould from a sample and reproducing only what’s needed. Fewer lengths, less installation, and a seamless finish.
With 29 years’ experience in installing and mould making, we find that both options often cost similar. In certain cases, matching can sometimes be cheaper while preserving your home’s heritage.
